Seals And Surf 26/10/2010

With the forecast predicting SW winds force 5 to 7 occasionally gale 8 it seemed an ideal day to pay our annual visit to the Seal Hospital situated at the entrance to Milford Haven Docks.

Today there were 3 pups in residence at the converted oil storage tank and also 1 very young pup which needs almost constant care so is staying at Terry the hospital's owner's house. 

The hospital relies totally on contributions, hence Bobby and Harry always seem to come away with a cuddly seal or dolphin. The hospital is well worth a visit especially at this time of year and with todays and the rest of the week's weather there will be a few more patients. 

Returning to Pencarnan the tide was out at Porthsele making it ideal for a play in the Dagger Juice.

Porthsele was sheltered from a lot of the Southerly gale and there were some reasonable sized waves coming in so at least I managed to get on the water today.

Milford Haven Seal Hospital 27/10/2009

Today's windy and unsettled weather made it an ideal day to make our annual visit to the Milford Haven Seal Hospital which is housed in a disused oil refinery storage tank at the entrance to the docks.

There were 5 pups in the hospital today and apparantely so far this year it has been a lot quieter than last year probably because of the very settled weather we have had recently but I am sure this will change especially after the wind and rough seas we have had over the last few days.

The pups are kept in heated compartments with 2 small pools which the pups are constantly in and out learning their swimming skills.

It is well worth a visit especially at this time of year with both Bobby and Harry really looking forward to our visit.

We spent a very pleasurable hour there watching the pups being fed whole Mackerel. Terry and his volunteer staff do a fantastic job and as the hospital relies solely on donations they need all the financial help they can get.

Milford Haven Seal Hospital 28/10/2008

With the wind still showing no sign of easing we decided to take a trip to the Milford Haven Seal hospital which is situated in an old refinery storage tank at the entrance to the Milford dockyard.

Inside there are 2 pools and numerous heated cubicles. Today there were 6 pups of varying ages and I guess if this wind keeps up there will be more additions.

The volunteer staff do a fantastic job and the centre is run entirely on donations. It is well worth a visit especially this time of year.

On returning to Pencarnan I took a walk to St John's Point and here are a few photo's looking out into Ramsey Sound.

No paddling today again, never mind tomorrow's another day.
