Skomer - Without a Paddle 02/07/2010

I have paddled around Skomer Island on numerous occasions but have never landed on it, so today seemed an ideal day for the family outing to see the Puffins before they head off for the winter.
We arrived at Martin's Haven early and boarded the Dale Princess. Within 15 minutes we were landing at North Haven, a lot easier and quicker than paddling!

We headed straight for the Wick which is the best place to watch the Puffins returning to their burrows after dodging the numerous Gulls.

We watched the Puffins who seemed pretty unworried by our presence before setting off to explore the rest of the island and have a lunch break with the island of Skokholm in the background.

Before we knew it the time was getting near for our boat so we made our way back to The Wick to say our goodbyes to the Puffins and the occasional Guillemot though hopefully I might be able to see them once more before they leave Skomer and head off to somewhere in the North Atlantic.

Good to see them with plenty of sand eels, I have seen large shoals of them when I have been out paddling which hopefully is a good sign.
As regards the weather look out for my post 2 days later when normal service is resumed.
